Description

By 2012, the 100 year old decommissioned church was in dire state. The building was in need of immediate repairs as the bell tower was slowly collapsing and the existing foundations which were a combination of wood timbers and old tree stumps had rotten resulting in the floors starting to fail.

RAM Construction Inc was chosen as the general contractor for the restoration and rehabilitation of the building and assisted in the construction of a new three unit townhouse on the existing site.

To begin the restoration work the building was lifted and moved to the back of the property to allow for a new concrete foundation to be installed. The church building was then moved back onto the new foundation. The steeple, constructed in 1912, was re-supported and the building was completely restored.

Original wainscoting throughout and wood fir floors were preserved as well as the existing exterior siding was retained. A new cedar roof was installed replacing the existing asphalt roof to further mimic the original state of the building. Original stain glass windows were preserved and maintained. The complete exterior of the building was surveyed and any rotten or deteriorating pieces of siding were replaced. A local company was able to recreate the siding profile so that any new pieces that were installed blended in with the existing.

The restored building provides another commercial space for a business in the area as well as the 3 row homes provide much needed residential space in Ladner.
